Blue Marble Benefit

  • June 8, 2021
  • World Ocean Day
  • Venue: Hayes Mansion

2018 marked the first Blue Marble event held at the Bently Reserve, where the vision for the BayEcotarium was unveiled with opening remarks by Dr. Sylvia Earle and the Key Note address by the First Lady of the United States, Dr. Jill Biden. The Blue Carpet Reception pays homage to the first image of our BLUE PLANET – Earth – taken on December 7, 1972, from a distance of about 29,000 kilometers (18,000 miles) by the crew of the Apollo 17 spacecraft on its way to the Moon, and is one of the most reproduced images in history. On July 21, 2015, NASA released a new Blue Marble photograph taken by a U.S. Deep Space Climate Observatory (DSCOVR), a solar weather and Earth observation satellite that was launched in February 2015.

The Blue Marble Benefit is a celebration of Life on earth and our commitment to nurture its beauty and its rich biodiversity. The 2021 theme focuses on noise pollution and high decibel levels in oceans impacting marine life.

At Aquarium of the Bay, we focus on water, beginning at the heart—the very depths—of San Francisco Bay.

Our facility showcases 300 feet of crystal clear acrylic tunnels holding 700,000 gallons of carefully maintained Bay water that sustains approximately 30,000 animals, from octopuses to eight-foot native sevengill sharks. Visitors are also treated to mesmerizing walls of jellies and a chance to touch bat rays, skates and “splash zone" animals.
